Directions to the House of Deth!
Be advised - from Thanksgiving Weekend until after New Years, you will encounter Much Traffic on Sumner Avenue due to Bright Nights. Plan accordingly for time.
From I-91 South:
Take Exit 4 off Route 91 South. As you proceed to the bottom of the ramp, you will have two options to turn left under the Rte 91 overpass. You want to take the second left (within about 10 yards of the first left). Get into the right hand traffic lane. This will leave you facing a double set of lights. Go straight through the first set of lights, and immediately bear right up Longhill Street, and again, immediately left up Leete Street. At the top of Leete Street, turn right onto Fort Pleasant Ave, and take your next left onto Forest Park Ave.
Proceed up Forest Park Ave approximately 2/10's of a mile where you will find a brown church on the left. Take the street just before the church (it is one way) . Take this street (name escapes me right now) to the end. Turn right onto Belmont Ave. Take Belmont Ave to the second set of lights (which puts you at the "X", a coagulation of streets that looks nothing like the letter "X"). This is the intersection of Belmont and Sumner Ave. Turn Left onto Sumner Avenue. When you proceed through the "X", you should have a Blockwaster Video and CVS on your right hand side.
From the "X", you will go to your second set of lights (Sumner and Dorset) and turn right onto Dorset Street.
***Proceed up Dorset Street about 100 yards, and you will see that the road forks to the right. Here you have 2 choices - Bear right onto Brunswick Street, the House of Deth is the second on the left (#31, white Cape - lights will be on)
Or...
Proceed up Dorset past the Brunswick Street fork to the next street on the right (Bethel Street). Turn right onto Bethel and proceed to the end. Turn Right onto Brunswick Street.
@@ The House of Deth is the fifth house on the right. (Same address as given above :o/ )
From Rte. 91 North:
For fastest results uring Non Bright Nights season - Get Ye off the highway at the Forest Park/East Longmeadow Route 83 Exit (#3). At the top of the ramp, get into the right hand travel lane, and proceed to second set of lights, where you will take a right hand turn onto Sumner Avenue. Follow Sumner Avenue through the next 5 sets of lights, with the 4th set of lights being that which we natives call the "X". It is the convergence of a half dozen streets, and is just as ugly as a rotary, however, if you catch the lights right, you will breeze through what is actually 3 separate sets of lights all within about 100' of each oter, and for these purposes are categorized as the 4th set of lights. You will pass a Blockbuster Video and CVS on your right as you pass the "X". Through the 5th set of lights (Wong Wok Restaurant on the right, Sunoco on the left) and on to the 6th set of lights. Here you will take a Right onto Dorset street and proceed according to the directions above at the ***
During Bright Nights, if you are coming from the south, get off Rte 91 at Exit 1 in Longmeadow. From the top of the ramp, you want to get onto Rt 5 North, and stay inteh left hand travel lane to I believe your 3rd set of lights (Longmeadow Center). Turn right onto Williams Street (I think) and follow it for quite a ways! (approximately 3 miles) - you will go past a strip mall complex on your right, and Big Y across the street on your left. From this point, go to your second set of lights and turn left onto Dwight Road.
Take Dwight to the end (approximately 1.5 miles) and turn right onto Route 83. Approximately 1/4 mile up on your left you will see a laundromat (ScotchWash) and the Kelly Fradet Lumber Company. Turn Left onto Dorset Street which runs between the two parking lots. Follow Dorset Street approximately 1/4 mile - you can take any of the left hand streets starting with Blaine proceed to the next intersection that has a right hand option - this will be Brunswick Street. Follow Brunswick until you find #31 (or proceed up Dorset to Bethel, turn left onto Bethel, go to the end and turn right onto Brunswick and follow the procedure above at the @@)
From the East (16 Acres/Wilbraham)
Find your best way to Parker Street/Wilbraham Ave Intersection. Proceed up Wilbraham Ave heading towards Springfield, and turn Left down Plumtree Road. Follow Plumtree Road to the intersection of Plumtree and Allen Street. Proceed straight through the intersection (Gurneys Service Station on the far right corner) to the end of that street (can't recall the name) - turn left and proceed around the corner to the next set of lights - you are now at Sumner Ave. Turn right at the light, and then immediately turn left at the next (50' away) light onto Dorset Street... Proceed from the ***
Or (as if there are not options enough...) Coming from Parker Street/Allen-Cooley - proceed to the Bicentenial Highway, and head towards Springfield (Allen Street). Follow Allen Street to where it turns into Sumner Ave (Friendly's on the right, Gus & Paul's on the left) - stay straight on Sumner Ave (Allen Street forks to the right). Go up about 1/4 mile on Sumner to the set of double lights - staying in the left hand lane. Pass through the first light, and turn left at the second light onto Dorset - Proceed form the ***
