OFFICER REPORTS
1. Michaelene - Kai may be at the Mount Holyoke demo on November 8, 2003.
2. Aegir - we made money at Crown Tourney. The final accounts are being
done right now.
3. Pagan is stepping down as Seneschale and becoming Kingdom Waiver Secretary.
4. Mistress Phred is now the Chronicler and read out the preliminary
account of the Crown Tourney.
5. Needleworkers will be meeting on November 21, 2003. There will be a
fabric/mathom swap as part of the festivities.
6. Illuminati – not much right now.
7. Concentus – performed at Crown Tourney to great acclaim, currently
learning music for Yule. Prince Kelson wants to know if we’ve cut a
CD,
and the group has been invited to Harper’s Retreat.
8. MOAS – Leatherworkers did site tokens for Crown, Needleworkers and
Concentus thriving. Next round of A&S championship at Yule. Sotelties
at
Crown decorative and delicious. Cooks are meeting on an irregular basis
when they have access to facilities and hope to meet at Fionnghuala’s
house on the 15th.
9. Chatelaine – submitted quarterly report last month. Has had a handful
of e-mails from prospective newcomers. Two participants at last meeting.
Newcomer from previous meeting came to Crown and loved it. Worcester
people were in New Salem and were introduced to Quintavian seneschale.
10. Boroughs –
MHC Ren Faire is this Saturday in a new venue. Alianor will post
directions and hours on the mailing list. A&S demos greatly desired.
MHC girls made tunics, taught by Matatias. Two Mounties attended A&S
night at Smith in October.
Smith – fencing practice on Wednesday continues. Book-making demo in
October, second half on November 10th. Public kudos to three Smithies who
were on site at Crown (Sarah, Shawna, Alex) for fourteen hours.
11. Fencing – unofficial practices at Smith. K&Q fencing championship
on
the 15th, schlager only, with no authorizations taking place. Baronial
championship will be at Yule.
12. Herald – Detharlion is ill, but reports that Leatherworkers are
ongoing. Heraldry work continues. New mail server is ready to go but
will be delayed for the time being. Yahoo Groups is being erratic.
OLD BUSINESS
1. Mistress Phred is investigating the kingdom procedure for bidding on
events with an eye to adapting it for baronial events. She has the event
submission form for use as a model. Forms have list of suggested
requirements, timelines, etc.
Aegir raised the issue of deadlines for picking a new autocrat/senior.
Our next event that needs an autocrat is the May/June archery event. We
need to find a site and a date, with June a good possibility. The
deadline for bids should be late January, and should include proposed
site, number of people, food arrangements, event format, etc. Further
discussion was shelved until we have a form in place.
2. The Barony could reimburse those who took the Serve Safe test.
However, anyone who did so would have to agree to be a kitchen supervisor
at the event. We need to have our regular cooks certified. The Mass
Restaurant Association test session costs $60.00 for the book, the test is
$185.00, and the certification lasts for five (5) years. Pagan knows
someone who is willing to set up a class for the Barony at a lesser.
Certifying multiple people would be best. Pagan to investigate and we can
discuss at a later meeting, as certification will not be needed for the
next two events.
NEW BUSINESS
1. Seneschal election – election was held by secret ballot. Matatias
was
elected in a landslide. Pagan was thanked for her hard work and wished
good luck in her new job as Kingdom Waiver Secretary.
2. Knight marshal and MOL are up for election in January, Chancellor Minor
in February. Incumbents should e-mail the list with a job description.
Interested parties should e-mail the Baron/ess and the Seneschal.
3. MHC wants to present their charter unofficially at the Ren Faire on
November 8, 2003, and officially at Yule on December 13, 2003.
4. Aegir is looking to start up an archery practice in the Greenfield area
and is hoping to acquire a Saunders mat. He also is investigating
becoming an archery marshal. Site possibilities include Leverett,
Greenfield, and Bernardston.
5. New garb evening at the House of Nummy will be on November 9th in
Chicopee beginning around noon.
EVENTS
1. Crown Tourney – Sir Gaufred Kelson von Heidelberg won. Rough and
unofficial count: 357 adults, 120 children. Barony made a substantial
profit on the event. Event went extremely well. Kudos to Matatias and
Alianor for autocratting such a successful event.
2. Yule – is now December 13, 2003 at the Melha Shrine Temple. There
is a
possibility of Balfar and Luna coming incognito if their carriage breaks
down in the area. Seven merchants have signed up. Volunteer sign up
sheet circulated. Arioch will be designing the fencing championship, and
Bianca will be running the cribbage tournament. The Illuminati will be
preparing scrolls. House of Nummy is doing the dayboard, and Odbald will
be cooking the feast.
3. Birthday/Novice Schola – Elwynne is autocratting. The Cooks’
Guild will
be doing the dayboard, and the House of Nummy will be running the feast.
The site will be St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Holyoke, at a cost of
$50.
It will be a donation event to avoid the non-member surcharge and
encourage newcomers, with fees for the dayboard and feast. There will be
an A&S display area and a competition, and possibly a children’s
track.
We are aiming at a February date, possibly February 21, 2004 or the first
weekend in March.
4. We have been invited to submit a bid for Prince Kelson’s coronation
early in April. Bid is due December 1st, the day of our next meeting, so
we need to decide ASAP. There was debate on whether this was advisable,
with a consensus that it would be best to have a completely different
staff for the summer archery event. Biggest need: large site with large
auditorium, vigil space, and big royal rooms. Pagan will investigate,
assisted by Phred and Una.
