Greater Officers:  Minister of Arts & Sciences

Mistress Sarah Davies of Monmouth

My SCA career began in 1989, when Baroness Elwynne recruited me to work on the Kingdom armorial cloaks. My first event was Ice Dragon in 1990, my first teaching event was an East Kingdom University in 1992, and I've gone on from there.

During the last seventeen years I've served Bergental as Chronicler, Minister of Arts & Sciences, informal recording secretary for business meetings, lady-in-waiting to Baroness Elwynne (twice), teacher, autocrat, cook, member of Concentus and Bergental Pro Musica, seamstress, head of the Needle Workers' Guild, and general jill-of-all-trades. My personal interests include medieval quilting, natural dyes, knitting, embroidery, alchemical imagery in medieval and Renaissance art, and religion. I am a member of the Order of Athena's Thimble, the EK needle workers' guild, and of the incipient Guild of St. Severus, the EK knitting guild. I teach whenever I can and am glad to do so.

To date, I have been honored for my work by the Barony (Order of the Fountain and Order of the Hourglass, both in 1992), the kingdom (Award of Arms, 1994; Order of the Maunche, 1996; Order of the Laural, 2006), and individual royals (Golden Tyger from Darius & Roxane in 2003 and Thorson and Svava in 2004).
Future projects include a Compleat Anachronist on medieval quilting, a quilted silk caftan, and maybe, someday, learning to spin something that isn't a lumpy and uneven mess.
