Monthly Activities

Business Meeting — 1st Monday of each month, 7pm, at the Sakura Buffet on King Street in Northampton, MA.

Newcomers' Meeting — 3rd Wednesday of the month from 7 to 8:30 pm., at the Fighter Practice location (see below). The newcomers' meeting is for new people to ask questions and make connections with people that have the same interest. The Barony of Bergental has many members that love to share their knowledge and skills with others. So please stop by and introduce yourself.

Bardic Night — 2nd Friday of the month (on a quarterly basis) at 7 PM, location varies. Baron Sir Tommaltach (Excalibur1954@aol.com) is the Bardic College Head. The location and directions are posted to the Bergental Yahoo! group e-mail list. This is a gathering to share songs and stories. The songs and stories are medieval, medieval-ish or SCA specific. Some write their own stories, poems, songs. Some of us just read fairy tales out of books and some people just are good listeners.

Needleworkers’ Meeting — 3rd Friday of the month at 7 PM, location is 5 Devens Court, Greenfield.  People embroider, knit, spin and do other fiber/needle things.

Fighter Practice — Normally every Wednesday of the month at 7 PM, Bethesda Lutheran Church, Island Pond Rd, Springfield. The main purpose is for practice of our special “martial art” which we call “heavy fighting” or “heavy combat”, but people who don’t participate in the fighting also go to the practice just the chat or work on projects. Notices will be posted to the Bergental e-mail list when there are changes in the practice schedule.

Bergental Illuminati — Mistress Eleanore MacCarthaigh (misphred@yahoo.com) is the Guild Head for this our Calligraphy and Illumination Guild. Date and location are currently subject to notice. Notice is published to the Bergental discussion list. This is a time for those interested in calligraphy and illumination to practice their art with others.  New people are always welcome!

Note: All of the above activities are open to anyone interested and do not require medieval dress. Our “events” are also open to anyone but do require medieval dress. Loaner clothing can be arranged for our local events for those who do not have any yet, but it is best to ask in advance because our supply is very limited.
